So in general the experience I received from just trying to get basic utilities was so horrible that I would NOT have purchased a house in that area had there been a review about the truth I could find on the web and how deficient this location is.
The utility billing system used by the City of Lebanon is Terrible! They post fees and charges after the bill is paid in full. WORD TO THE WISE: Pay close attention to the bill, because those fees will get you disconnected and the city charges $50 to reconnect. Any charges beyond the billed amount should be added to the bill the second they become due, not in the next month when they are not expected. Like everything else with the City of Lebanon....they are always behind the curve and when they drag themselves into the modern age, there efforts almost always fall short.
A water leak was found at the box near the road. A call was made to the water department to check it. They said that it was on our side, and to have a plumber fix it. The plumber confirmed the leak was in fact on the city side. I had to pay $105 with no recourse.
Every time I've had to go in this place the ladies are really rude and are incapable of making an appointment for a worker to come put to our house. They always "make" the appointment but I've always had to call back and make another one, because they didn't... What can you do? Nothing I guess just suck it up because even though they hate their job, they aren't going anywhere
HORRIBLE -- The cashier seems to go out of her way to be unhelpful. The supervisor's are more interested in excuses and it took the city commissioner to get involved to correct what should not have been an issue. The Water Dept was having issues connecting my utilities, they were unable to locate the water meter (2 ft from the hydrant by the street) due to the fact that there was Snow on the ground. The hookup fee of $75 for water and anther $75 for gas is OUTRAGEOUS and should come under the heading of both ILLEGAL and EXTORTION!! The water dept is proud of the fact that they JUST GOT the ability to pay online through a service that requires you to pay the service fee for the ability to pay the bill online. Additionally the online function is only to pay the bill, you cannot start / stop / move service online, this utility company actually requires you to come to they're office in person to sign up for service and the office is only open Mon-Fri standard business hours. So to get utilities you have to take time away from work to go deal with them in person!
Had I known about the deficiencies in the local utility providers I would not have chosen to buy a house in the city of Lebanon TN. If you are a fan of the past and want to get a feeling of what it was like to live in the 80's without online internet or any decent technology then this is the place for you! IF YOU are wanting to live somewhere that the utility companies have a CLUE (water company couldn't find they're own meter from the 1 inch of snow on the ground--REALLY? that's clueless considering it was 2ft from the fire hydrant at the end of my driveway PLUS they had turned the water off less than 4 days prior from the previous owner of the house. )
Rude rude rude. EVERY time I have to deal with these women they are so incredibly rude and condescending. 15 years I've lived in Lebanon now and not one single visit to this place has ever been pleasant.
